The time has arrived at last. Ethanol the alternative liquid fuel for our motor vehicles is now far cheaper to produce than oil based fuels and that gap is set to widen even further. From now on ethanol will be the fuel of choice. Sadly our Government and industry leaders have ignored this industry's potential and we do not have the technologies in place. Countries like Brazil have many millions of motor vehicles running happily on ethanol. Motorists there are paying up to a third less for ethanol and it is their fuel of choice. Australia has a lot of catching up to do. This is why I am standing for election. We desperately need leadership to fast track this change in our sugar cane industry. We must stop producing sugar and start producing ethanol. There are new processes available to extract more ethanol from a given tonne of sugar cane. We can not only catch up but overtake Brazil in the technology stakes. Here in Hinkler we can once again be the pace setter in sugar cane culture.The environment will be as happy as you.
